How Does a GenerLink Work?

A GenerLink enables the connection of a portable generator directly to the electrical system of your home or business. This is achieved through a transfer switch, which automatically transitions the power source from the utility company to the generator during a power outage. Unlike traditional setups, the GenerLink incorporates the transfer switch within the device itself, eliminating the need for a separate installation by an electrician.

Installing and using the GenerLink device is a straightforward process. It involves plugging it into your electrical panel and connecting it to your generator using the extension cord provided with the GenerLink. Once installed, the GenerLink will detect power outages and automatically switch the power source to the generator. When the utility power is restored, the GenerLink will switch back to the utility company as the power source.

Why Install a GenerLink?

Here are some key advantages of considering the installation of a GenerLink:

  • Backup power: Ensures that you have reliable power during extended outages. It enables the operation of essential appliances, lighting, and device charging.
  • Safety assurance: GenerLink provides a secure method of connecting your portable generator to the electrical system. It adheres to all safety regulations.
  • Cost-effective solution: GenerLink offers an economical approach to backup power. It is more affordable compared to traditional standby generators and can be utilized selectively, reducing expenses.
  • Versatility: GenerLink allows you to back up all your circuits, unlike manual transfer switches. While the number of circuits that can be powered simultaneously depends on the generator’s capacity, you have the flexibility to choose which circuits to activate at any given time.

Automatic Standby Generators

In 1998, Eastern Ontario was hit with an ice storm that saw some communities without power for weeks. Many residents found themselves without heat, refrigeration, or cooking appliances. Rural areas were particularly affected, and some families found themselves moving into temporary emergency shelters. Having a standby generator will prepare you for such an event with an uninterrupted power supply.

Generac Generators

RJL Electrical installs Generac generators that run on natural gas or propane. These generators are installed outside your home, just like a central air conditioning unit. In the event of a power failure, they switch on automatically and deliver power, without interruption, straight to your home’s entire electrical system. These systems even allow you to monitor their status with a smartphone app from anywhere in the world!
